Drowning in details

Information is coming in almost daily now for the impending relocation to China.  My course outlines have been forwarded to Wuhan, and now I have to balance fleshing them out with wrapping things up here in SB.  Work is a little overwhelming, but is balanced by the fact that it’s just too late to do some things.

The opportunity to go back to the PRC for a second extended stay is fantastic and exciting.  I can’t believe how fortunate we have been to receive a Fulbright to go for a whole term.  There are aspects that aren’t ideal, and there are a great many more unknowns, but that’s part of the fun.  One thing that definitely helps is having a picture of Wuhan in my head.  The reconnaissance mission last October was brilliant and has provided a lot of reassurance in the planning.

I realized over the weekend that this transition period that I find myself in has been going on for more than a year now.  Almost exactly a year ago I gave my notice at Duck U in advance of moving to UC Surf Board.  The Fulbright application was long filed and almost forgotten.  And here we are a year later:  8 months into the new job; packing up for a big adventure; and even turning our thoughts to what our housing situation (and L’s employment situation) will be when we return in July.

But we can’t think about that too much, as the pressing matter at hand is getting ready for China.
